BackYard Sapphire of Acadiana

BackYard Sapphire is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that began in 2021 as a small backyard effort and has grown into a community-supported sustainability initiative serving more than 120 curbside customers. We are powered by people who care about reducing waste, protecting local resources, and building a cleaner, more sustainable Acadiana. Volunteers are essential to who we are. With limited paid operational support, much of our impact comes from community members who help with outreach, glass processing, events, customer support, and education. Every volunteer helps expand local recycling access and strengthen our shared commitment to our environmental responsibility. BackYard Sapphire partners with organizations such as Lafayette Consolidated Government, Keep Lafayette Beautiful, Keep Louisiana Beautiful, and Parish Proud to advance sustainability and environmental awareness. BackYard Sapphire provides community-based glass recycling services for Acadiana residents and businesses through curbside pickup, glass collection, crushing, and sustainability outreach. We help keep glass out of landfills by turning collected material into reusable sand, pebble glass, and beach glass for practical and creative reuse. Our services are designed to make glass recycling accessible and useful for the community. Recycled glass sand is available to the public at the sandbag station located at the Lafayette Consolidated Government compost facility on Dugas Road, and our outreach efforts promote recycling education, environmental awareness, and sustainable habits across Acadiana.
