In simple terms, Vitalant helps make sure hospitals have the blood they need when patients need it. ❤️ What Vitalant does Collects blood donations through community blood drives and donation centers. Tests donated blood to make sure it is safe for patients. Processes blood into components such as red blood cells, platelets, and plasma. Provides blood products to hospitals for patients undergoing surgery, cancer treatment, trauma care, childbirth complications, and other medical situations. Coordinates with hospitals to help maintain an adequate blood supply. Educates communities about the importance of blood donation. Relies heavily on volunteers to support blood drives, transportation, administrative work, donor hospitality, and other operations. And there is a really important piece behind all of that: Vitalant can't do its work without blood donors and volunteers. Donors provide the lifesaving resource, while volunteers help make the donation process possible and help get blood where it needs to go.
