Title: Member, Board of Directors
Purpose: To determine policies, procedures and regulations for the conduct of the agency; to raise funds to finance the organization and its programs; and to monitor organizational performance.
Term: Three years
Responsible To: President, Board of Directors
General Expectations:
- Undergo local criminal records checks, including State and FBI, as well as Child Abuse Registry Check and Sexual Offenders Registry Check, every 4 years
- Become knowledgeable about the organization.
- Be informed about the needs of the community and our constituents.
- Establish policies for administering the program and services that are in harmony with the purpose of the agency.
- Evaluate annual organization performance and maintain progress towards long-range organizational goals.
- Serve in leadership positions or undertake special assignments willingly and enthusiastically when asked.
- Recruit possible nominees to the board who are women and men of achievement who can make contributions to the work of the board and the organization.
- Employ and evaluate the performance of the Executive Director.
- Any officer or agent elected or appointed by the board of directors may be removed by the board of directors whenever, in its sole and unfettered judgment, the best interest of the Cooperative will be served thereby.
Meetings:
- Prepare for, attend and participate in board meetings.
- Attend meetings of standing committees, as well as any special ad hoc committees to which appointed.
- Assume board leadership responsibilities as requested and as possible.
- Notify board chair if you are unable to attend a board meeting. More than 3 unexcused consecutively missed meetings could result in dismissal from the board.
- Attendance at a portion of CASA Volunteer training is strongly encouraged.
Fiduciary Responsibilities:
- Review, prior to meetings, read and understand budgets and financial statements. Ask questions when applicable.
- Ensure that the financial affairs of the agency are conducted in a responsible way and in accordance with established policies.
- Give an annual gift to the organization that is personal and meaningful and or help raise additional funds through ticket sales, event promotion, and grant promotion.
Fund Raising:
- Assist in resource development by implementing fund raising strategies and organizing events.
- Secure funds required for current expenses by mobilizing the community and the entire volunteer and staff forces for active participation in funding efforts.
- Cultivate sources of financial support from various community members.
- Represent the agency at community events, organizations and with private individuals. Speak proudly and positively.
