Who We Are

The mission of Catholic Charities of Acadiana is to "care for the sacred gift of all human life, especially the most vulnerable." Nearly 50 years old, Catholic Charities of Acadiana began from the simple charitable response of a local Catholic priest, Msgr. Alexander O. Sigur, to the poverty around him. One individual giving financial assistance for rent and utilities assistance to individuals and families in need was the seed of what now bears abundant, ongoing fruit in an eight-parish region that encompasses the diocese of Lafayette.

What We Do

Catholic Charities of Acadiana encompasses 11 different programs including 3 emergency shelters, a hygiene center, soup kitchen, food bank, disaster response agency, services for the Deaf and Deaf-Blind community, as well as services for the stranger in our midst. We have recently launched our very first social enterprise, Crossroads Collective, which provides the local and even national community the opportunity to “purchase with a purpose” in further support of our programs.
